Liviko has a unique history that has seen it\u00a0survive wars and challenging times. Throughout the years, Liviko has been in public and private ownership, and from 2000, the alcohol producer belongs to the ambitious NG Investeeringud, where Liviko has become a successful international alcohol group.<\/p>\n

MASTER CRAFTSMANSHIP<\/h2>\n

Research-based product development and a high-tech laboratory play an important role alongside the knowledge and skills passed on from master to apprentice for 126 years. The quality of our workshop is attested by Vana Tallinn liqueur, Viru Valge vodka and Crafter\u2019s gins, which have become hallmarks of Estonia. We feel honoured that Estonia is known around the world thanks to products lovingly created by Liviko.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

MAMMA ILSE <\/h2>\n

\n

Distillation technology has been used here since Liviko\u2019s early days. The copper pot still known as Mamma Ilse has been in use for a hundred years, named in honour of Ilse Maar, a long-time master distiller at Liviko. As one of the creators of the legendary liqueur Vana Tallinn, Ilse Maar is affectionately known as the grandmother of Vana Tallinn. The historic pot still has been retired, and can now be seen in a place of honour at the Liviko Museum. The modern pieces of distillation equipment that replaced Mamma Ilse were christened Mahta and Elfride, after Liviko\u2019s distinguished master distillers Mahta Laidvee and Elfride Kingisepp.<\/p>\n

Mamma Ilse was also used for the first-ever steam distillation with a botanical basket: this centenarian copper lady did the main work to produce the vodka Rukkilill, created in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Historical facts<\/h1>\n

The oldest drink in Liviko\u2019s product portfolio is the crystal liqueur K\u00e4nnu Kukk, which has been manufactured using a heated bottling process since 1900. The legendary Vana Tallinn liqueur became one of Estonia\u2019s hallmark products immediately after its creation in 1960.<\/p>\n

The trendsetting Crafter\u2019s London Dry Gin was developed by Liviko in 2015. A few years later, Liviko launched the vibrant Crafter\u2019s Aromatic Flower Gin, which added a dash of colour to the increasingly popular gin trend. Liviko\u2019s product innovation continues. Its latest fruits include the Re-crafted Crafter\u2019s fizzy drink series created in 2019 according to the zero waste<\/em> principle, and establishing a new category in the global beverage industry: Junibeer \u2013 juniper berry beer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n<\/div>\n<\/a>\n\n\n

Vana Tallinn became Liviko\u2019s flagship from the start: the liqueur with its distinctive taste became a kind of currency and deficit commodity in the Soviet Union, the demand for which at that time was surpassed only by bananas.     \n Liviko\u2019s earliest predecessor was the distillery Revaler Sprit Fabrik which used to be on Mere puiestee, and which later grew into Tallinna Piiritusetehaste Omanike \u00dchisus Rosen & Co (Tallinn Distillery Owners\u2019 Association). In 1921, a distillery was established as a separate company at Rosen & Co \u2013 the liqueur and spirit factory Tallinna Viinavabrik O\u00dc. The most renowned drink produced here was Baron Rosen\u2019s Wodka, which was sold in both Berlin and London. The most famous admirer of this drink was the forefather of science fiction, the English writer H. G. Wells. \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/li>\n \n \n \n\n

    \n The original recipe for K\u00e4nnu Kukk reached Estonia in 1900, probably from Germany or the Netherlands. In Liviko, this recipe was passed from master to apprentice, and skilled liqueur blenders perfected the timeless art of making crystal liqueur using a heated bottling process. \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/li>\n \n \n \n\n

    \n On 25 September 1898, the cornerstone was laid for the state vodka warehouse Kroonu Viinaladu No. 1, which marked the beginning of the history of Liviko. The main building of the company, which houses Liviko\u2019s production facility to this day, was constructed in 1898\u20131900 according to a standard design. It is built from limestone and decorated with neo-Romanesque elements. The architect was Rudolf Otto von Kn\u00fcpffer. The planned production capacity of the vodka warehouse was 300,000 pails or 3,690,000 litres of vodka per year.
