New Year’s concert offered an evening of virtuosity and uplifting emotion

The traditional New Year’s concert presented by Rémy Martin and Eesti Kontsert brought together exceptional talent. Maestro Neeme Järvi conducted the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. The performers included violinist Hans Christian Aavik, soprano Elina Nechayeva, bassoonist Martin Kuuskmann and the Estonian National Male Choir. The evening was hosted by actor Mait Malmsten.

“It was a great pleasure and an honour to welcome Maestro Neeme Järvi back to the New Year’s concert after many years,” said Maarit Kangron, chief producer of Eesti Kontsert. She added that the first event of the year – the traditional New Year’s concert – had a Viennese atmosphere, drew inspiration from the maestro’s favourite composers and music, and brought audiences well-known polkas, marches, waltzes and operetta melodies.

With this concert, Järvi looked back on his 75-year conducting career, which began with the overture to Johann Strauss’s operetta A Night in Venice at the Estonia Theatre. This year, as a surprise guest, he invited the young talent Kasper Joel Nõgene to conduct the work. The concert also paid tribute to the maestro’s outstanding contemporaries. The programme drew inspiration from renowned musicians and actors of his time – Helju Koppa, Uve Uustalu, Lemmo Erendy, Alfred Mering, Kalju Vaha and Hugo Malmsten.

“It has become a beautiful tradition to welcome the New Year with a concert presented by Rémy Martin and Eesti Kontsert. Starting the year with such a rich experience sets high expectations for the cultural year ahead,” said Janek Kalvi, CEO of Liviko.

The New Year’s concert was brought to audiences through a collaboration between the Estonian Kontsert Foundation, Liviko AS and Estonian Public Broadcasting. The concert is available to watch on Jupiter.

Liviko is focused on supporting socially and culturally significant areas by sponsoring art, literature, music and sport. The company has been a major supporter of Eesti Kontsert since 2021. The New Year’s concert takes its name from the 300-year-old cognac house Rémy Martin.
